Vasant Kanya Mahavidyalaya (V.K.M.) was inaugurated on the 10th July, 1954 by Dr. C.P. Ramaswamy Iyer, the then Vice-Chancellor of the Banaras Hindu University and has successfully celebrated its Golden Jubilee in 2004-2005. Its aspiration to attain academic excellence has given it a rare opportunity to be “entered to the privileges of Banaras Hindu University” as per the decision of the B.H.U. Academic Council and Visitor’s Approval (President of India).

VKM A FORWARD LOOKING INSTITUTION
In 2007 NAAC accredited VKM at B++ level for its all round achievement and propagation of value education among its students.
Identifying the immense research potential of its faculties NAAC has specifically recommended the college to be developed as a research centre.
In 2008 the college has started UGC sponsored Career Oriented Programme in Spoken English and in 2012 another Career Oriented Programme, viz., certificate Course in Fashion Designing started as well.
The year 2009 will stand as a milestone in the history of VKM. This year it starts functioning as a Post-graduate college. BHU has permitted to run PG programme and Ph.D. Research work in the departments of English, Hindi, Home Science, Psychology and Sociology.
The year 2020 will again stand as a milestone in the history of VKM. BHU has permitted to run UG Programme in Geography & PG programme in 6 departments more, i.e. Philosophy, Sanskrit, AIHC & Archaeology, History, Economics, Political Science.
Presently VKM is accredited ‘A’ in its second cycle of accreditation
